Let's go surfin now/ Everybodys learning how!
Surfin' Safari is not really a design project, but the starting point of a dream: to create, maybe one day, a customized sportswear collection. I interpreted the classical skull of the pirate flag in an ironic, italian way. “Sail-ami”, the real name of this operation, is in fact a pun between the word sail, (connected with surf) and “salami” a typical italian sausage made of pork. The skeleton became the snout of a pig, while the bones are two stylized sausages. I used to call it “Surfing' Safari” (referring to a song by Beach Boys) because I had to design a lot of pig snouts to find the best (aggressive?!) one.
These pirate-pigs decorate both the sails and the sportswear of "Sailami Surf Team", making their sails unmistakable and threatening.
